T. Fukunishi - Tokyo, Japan The captivating lights of Ginza. My feelings when I took them: I wanted to bring out the "World of Illusion" using the gas lights of Ginza. Note from Grace: In the late 1800's, the government embarked on a plan to modernize Ginza, a district in Tokyo, by building Western-style brick buildings and wide streets. With that came gas lamps, which became a key driving force behind Ginza's early success as it made it possible to stay out late for nighttime shopping and socializing. Ginza of today remains an upscale shopping area, with high-end department stores and boutiques such as Gucci and Hermes. |
