Earlier this summer while driving across the US I struggled with wanting to take a picture of everything I saw.

More knowledgable, alert, and ready to deal with stimulus overload, I approached my two months in India (map of visited locations) with an active eye and an open mind, soaking in the experiences, storing up the memories, and letting the images come. Everything in India is a on a grand, varied scale, and the contrasts in life are readily visible to all that keep their senses open.

And, it's nearly impossible to keep your senses closed off. Life invades you, crashes into you, ignores and welcomes you, eventually permeating into your skin, your head, your heart.

In retrospect, I embraced India in two main ways: by jumping into the experiences, living life up close, and then by pulling back, observing life from afar, building a broader perspective. Therefore, grouping images by Close and Afar seemed far too appropriate...
