I struggle to even attempt to describe Lebanon. I have an overwhelming sense that I know only enough to be dangerous; only enough to catch an unknowing glimpse of the people, culture, life, past and present of the nation. I live to be corrected, to make mistakes, to need to be corrected; I can not hope to understand the complete past and the complexity of the present. Most of the world is uneducated about life in Middle East, and the tremendous diversity of lives, cultures and experiences within the varied region.

But at the same time, I know in some way it is not necessary for me to know. Life is life. People are people. We live our daily lives outside of many of the grander political and cultural issues that our nations face.

And Lebanese know how to live.

I can not imagine being shown a better time. I cannot imagine a richer experience, meeting up with old friends, meeting new friends, enjoying the company of so many interesting people. I can only hope that I was a good guest, and that I will get the opportunity to return the favour in the future.
