When traveling alone, I spend a lot of time people watching. Who are they? What are they doing? Why are they here? What are they thinking? Tourists, travelers, locals, gringos, foreigners, men, women, children, workers, beggars, vendors: All are living their lives. Why are they doing what they are doing right now? As many of you may know, taking natural pictures of people can be difficult since a person's awareness of the camera creates a self-awareness in a person and an attempt to change their appearance for the camera. Whether they "like" or "dislike" the camera, people react to it and thus the pictures are shaped in part by the camera and the photographer themselves, similar to the Heisenberg uncertainty principle. Therefore this project reflects my travels in Mexico people watching and catching images of the unaware, the people without an idea the camera is trained on them, naturally living their lives. In each case, we wonder: Who are they? What are they doing? What are they thinking? I'll respond to one question for each image to provide some context, but leave the rest of the questions for you to ponder.
