Cleaning out the closet

When you return from a trip, what is the first thing you do?

When do you start doing the things you resolved to do while away? First thing? Once you get the small things done? Ever?

What do you typically resolve to do? What kind of changes to you decide to make? Do you decide to add or delete things?

What is more valuable - cleaning out the physical closet, or the mental closet?

Getting rid of unneeded physical possessions is a fairly simple step, fighting the emotional attachments we form to things are typically the hardest barriers.

But cleaning out the mind is far harder, identifying and addressing the emotional attachments we have to our ideas, our assumptions, our choices, the noise of our lives, forming our egos, our sense of selves, our identities.

Figuring out what to cut out is often more valuable that deciding what to add or include.

Just returned from five days roaming up and down US Rt. 1 around SF, from Big Sur to Albion and around. Driving bliss…
