Unrelated, but needed
Great thoughts on perhaps the biggest area for me to stretch myself, and something Nicholas has been trying to help me with: Matt Brandon, FAQ: How do you photograph people? How do you approach them?

… in general, the short and sweet answer is boiled down to simply be bolder and take risks, be polite and be ready for the moment.

Well worth reading the rest of the article and the comments.

  • This is proof you are a better photographer than I will ever be. I have a photo of that exact same factory, from that exact same spot, from many years back... and it is crap. Your picture of the same thing, from the same place, at the same time of day (a little earlier, actually) is... vastly better.
  • Nah, it's all situational. The clouds (well, pollution) is the best part...

I'm not that good at creating great images; I'm good at putting myself in the right situations :)

I'd say you're good at putting yourself in the right situations, therefore you're good at creating great images.

Isn't being in the right place at the right time partly what makes a great image?
  • Yes, partly; obviously knowing the right thing to do with the right place and the right time is important (how to make the best image possible given the situation and the choices)...
  • wow, this is heartbreakingly beautiful.
