Travel rarely ends up going according to plans. Road are closed (again and again and again). Sights are gone, or under construction, or closed for private parties. Detours take you on unexpected routes. Cities, destinations, tourist sights and events turn out differently than you had expected.
But that’s a good thing.
Take the long view to the small things:
Whatever happens, by the nature of simple probability it probably won’t be the worst thing that has ever happened to you or will happen to you.
Follow the unexpected bend in the trail, take the detour, go somewhere not on the map, in the guidebook, in your plans or dreams; listen to suggestions, remind yourself why you travel and trust your gut.
It’s worth it.

Well said.
Often, it's so much more fun when things don't go as planned.

Often more of a pain as well :)
But only by opening ourselves up to pain can we really experience pleasure.
