Detours are funny things.

When faced with a choice between…

  • A known route that appears to be different than usual, unexpectedly harder or seemingly blocked…
  • An unknown route that appears to be clear but holds untold unknowns..

… how do we choose? More importantly, how will we ever know which route would have been better?

We won’t.

But we have to move forward, we have to make a choice, we have to say yes to something.

Take a detour, appreciate the unknown, enjoy the journey, expose yourself to opportunity.

You’re worth the risk.

Today’s detour from a very known route led to a very odd and much longer drive than usual; but unusual situations requires unusual solutions. Here’s to the joys of detours…

Detouring is one of my favorite things to do whenever I travel.
  • How do you choose detours? Or do you just look for them at every turn?
  • ericajoh
Mostly I just follow my intuition... Sometimes I look for them.
  • Related: how do you "search for serendipity"?
  • ericajoh
I don't intentionally search for it. Serendipitous moments occur when we least expect them to. It doesn't even have to be a question of staying open to experiencing them. It's nothing we can plan or look for, 'cause then it wouldn't be serendipity.
  • this reminds me of donnie darko. you seen it?

where did your detour take you?
  • the photo or the post? (and yes, I've seen it...)

which detour? the mind's or the body's?
  • the photo and the post.

    the ghost and the shell.
